Ebenezer Methodist Church:
Who we are
A Legacy of Faith and Fellowship
Ebenezer Methodist Church has been a cornerstone of its community for nearly two centuries, serving as a beacon of faith and fellowship. Founded in 1832, Ebenezer Meeting House originally stood on two acres of land. A few years later, the church moved to its current location, marking the beginning of a long history rooted in growth and service. The first detailed records, dating back to the charge conference meeting minutes of January 7, 1894, reveal a vibrant church life that included a Sunday school, a Woman's Missionary Society, and a Children's Auxiliary Society. Over the years, these early foundations were complemented by reports of both financial and spiritual growth.
Ebenezer has long been a generous supporter of broader Methodist causes, including contributions to Children’s Day offerings, Epworth Orphanage, and Columbia Female College. Church organizations have extended this legacy by championing special projects through financial and in-kind donations, embodying a tradition of giving that remains at the heart of its mission.
A Tradition of Generosity
The church’s physical growth reflects its expanding vision for ministry and fellowship. Key milestones include the addition of Sunday school rooms in 1947, the installation of a pipe organ in 1961, the sanctuary’s renovation in 1966, and the dedication of Denny West Memorial Hall in 1970. These developments have enriched the church’s ability to worship, teach, and gather as a community. The carefully maintained grounds and cemetery further reflect the congregation’s pride, care, and reverence for its heritage.
